Big Squirrel

Postby HeathyVT » Wed Dec 24, 2008 9:04 am

since we don't have a small game section, ill post my small game hunting adventures here.

I frequently go squirrel hunting in December, I use a Remington 597 22. with a 30 round Banana Clip(A present from my brother). I usually take 2-3 from one area and move on. This was my big kill 2 weekends ago.

The squirrel weighed over 2 pounds and the tail was a good 12inches before it froze. It was the only squirrel I was able to shoot that day the others i saw where on land i couldn't hunt/shoot.

icemantrav, you mainly blowgun them in residential areas? Some of the mountainy areas i hunt would be challenging to get them with a blowgun.

Do any of you guys use calls?

That Squirrel I shot with a friends 12ga with target load and i was gutted and frozen. We had to shoot the squirrel twice cause it fell then grabbed/tangled in a branch and wouldn't come down. I wouldn't normally use a 30 round clip but my brother got it for me as a gift, plus the stock clip has been jamming every other round since the first 500 rounds i put through it.
