ready....set.....GO!

Postby guinea » Thu Nov 06, 2014 7:31 pm

As Bing Crosby once sang "It's beginning to look a lot like ice fishing...". Okay, maybe those weren't his exact words, but....

When I got home at 6-ish tonight, it was pitch black, so I came in, lit the stove, and got all my ice gear ready! All I need to do is load it in the truck. It's fairly easy for me, since I have no outbuildings and all my gear (and portable) have been in the kitchen since spring.

I am abandoning my frigid house for the winter;got a room to rent; and I assume that will be boring, so I think I'll have more ice time this year. Plus I'll be living closer to my favorite lake! :D

How about the rest of you? Ready to go, or what? (unless you're in northern Maine, then you're still shovelling  )

I'm ready. My shacks are cleaned up, I've been using my flashers and camera all summer, and I sorted out all of my jigs and plastics last week. Need to put some new line on my poles and it's go time.

Oh yeah, here comes Drifter to make us all jealous!

Is it just me, or when you think you have it all ready, do you still feel like you're forgetting something?

I know, right?

As long as we've got our augers, jigsticks, and lures/bait, we can at least get started.

No. :(

Ice was starting on a few local ponds ; I actually stood on 2" of black ice (only 5 feet from shore...I'm not crazy!), only to have the warm weather take it away. I give it 2 weeks.

Busy day on the Bay. A ton of small perch, throwback walleyes, but one eater and a "keeper size" perch to go with it. It's just good to be back out. I didn't fill my freezer but I had a blast.

Good for you, Iceman! I agree, at this point it's more about getting out, even if I get skunked!

I checked out a higher elevation (small) lake yesterday, and was surprised to find all open water! I thought it would be skimmed at least.
A buddy of mine texted me this a.m. to ask if I had checked that spot, because he was thinking he'd take the ride all the way out there and hope for fishable ice.
