Ice Fishing Tips-Biggest Perch

Postby Nick Roehl » Thu Dec 29, 2011 4:09 pm

This piggy was caught on a Kastmaster(perch color) with minnow head. It's an older picture but still my biggest perch to date. Over 2 lbs. Honestly I hit a no name slough in SD I had never seen before. We walked gear in 1/2 mile through waist high snow and it was well below zero. I had minnows in my pocket that froze there after grabbing a handful from the bucket. Anyway we drilled out 8 holes for 4 guys and dropped down. We all instantly had big fat perch on and it was like that for an hour straight. By far the best ice fishing for perch I have ever had.
So the tip here is do your homework on perch stocking. Get out drill a bunch of holes, hop around until you find active fish, and have a blast!

Thats my biggest. 11.75", 1.25 lbs. Just a hog. Same deal as you, in fact I was fishing for bullheads. Was just fishing a slough. So same thing applies, seek out places you wouldn't usually fish!
