My wife and I specifically fish for the "12-inch and up" size perch. We find them mostly in trout lakes and other spots where they aren't known to be prolific. The big ones are normally found much deepr than your average perch too. Just learn to fillet the big ones and you won't have any bones to worry about! :D -Jim

the middle one is 19 inches... now those are big perch
If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 18 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in Michigan.

Sorry, but 19 inches is rather hard to believe. Maybe put a tape next to it next time? Check most state records and you'll find the average record fish to be somewhere around 14-16 inches. There is a claim that a 21-inch perch was taken once in MI, but it is disputed by many. One current (verified) world record from MD (well over 3 pounds!) was listed at only 16.25 inches, for instance.... There's an old saying in the scientific world....."Incredible claims demand incredible evidence". -Jim

Here's the link to that MD fish: http://www.dnr.state.md.us/dnrnews/pres ... 1606a.html

I as a rule toss back anything under 10" unless injured of course.
A good fillet knife and technique will produce boneless fillets

Its an old picture, 5years ago now, so i could be getting the size of the fish wrong, but i dont believe I am. I have gotten several perch out of the lake between 15 and 17inches get 1 or 2 every time when we can actualy find the perch. the lake is pretty much a private lake with only one house on it and they dont let anybody out there so it has huge perch and bluegill, but i have never cought anything but big perch gills and an occasional small (5-6in) largemouth bass out of it. The cement slab taht the fish are laying on is 24inches wide to show about how big they were. and the master angler award for Michigan starts at 15 inches.
