Eelpout (aka Burbot) are a freshwater member of the cod family. They are a cold water fish. None in MA lakes, that I know of. Only very few lakes in VT have them, and they are all over 100 feet (or more) deep. I'll see what I can do to get you a Bass forum on here. -Jim

Here in VT, most waters are closed to bass fishing from the end of October throughh early June. The exception is during ice fishing season for trout, but only on those lakes open during the special ice fishing trout season which runs from late January through early March. I don't know of anyone in VT that targets winter bass, but I'm sure in states with more "warm water" lakes, it's quite popular. -Jim
