Boot ?

Postby Joedirt34 » Sun Mar 03, 2013 9:13 am

I know this question has been asked many times . But here goes . I have a pair of Irish Setters 2400 gram I bought 2 years ago and love them . Warm and dry ( even in this slush )
But heavy as can be now and so warm my feet are starting to get damp . so I'm looking for a good rubber boots like a Muck .
Got my wife a pair last year from the sportsmans guide ( she loves them ) I got a pair also and sent them back ( ankle fit didn't work for me ) I'm thinking 1000 grams would work . But open to ideas . I see Irish setters makes a boot like this but they don't get great reveiws . I'm looking for a end of year boot I guess you would say . I will still be wearing the Setters most of the time .

Check out the bunny (mickey mouse) boots. That's what I use every day. Even on the coldest days my feet are hot. The only drawback is they might be a bit heavy if your legs aren't strong...

Either the lacrosse alpha burlys or the muck arctic pro would be a good choice, the combination of neoprene and rubber makes for a warm, dry, lightweight and comfortable boot !

Hey Joe. I wear the Lacrosse 1,000 gram. The camo boots you always see on my feet. I usually have a thick pair of socks on and I have no problems.

I bought these too, awsem boot, and nice and light. It feels like your wearing runners.

But they only lasted two years before they started to crack around the ankle area. :wow:

I'm looking into new boots myself....I too have the Alpha-Burlys, and like Rick said, they crack around the ankles. From what I understand it is because they are plain ol' rubber.

I have the 750 gram, and as a person who gets cold feet easily, they work well for me. If your feet are prone to sweating, 1000 gram may be too much for you.

I was told to look into ones made of Neoprene rubber, which has less tendency to crack.

Snowy has the same as me, apparently, from the pic he put up, and I'm going on 4 years. Maybe the Alaskan tundra is too much for any boot!

Oops, I meant Canadian tundra. Sorry 'bout that, Rick!

I know they sell a conditioner for the Lacrosse boots that keeps them from cracking as easily, too.

Mine haven't cracked but did do a little fading when I left them on the porch for a day or two to dry out after some brook fishing.

try putting armour all on your rubber boots. The boot guy at LL Beans told me to do that to keep them from cracking and dry rotting.

I'd love to get a pair of these type boots but can't find any wide enough to fit on my size 10.5 4E. feet. Any ideas?

I bought a pair of 2400 gram Thinsulate Ultra lined Wood N Streams. They are very warm and about 10oz lighter than Mickies.
I did however pull the bottom insole which was only 1/4" thick and put in a 3/8" thick wool reflective heat insole. Much nicer. I bought a size 11 while my feet are between 10-10.5. Plenty of toe wiggle room even with heavy socks. I have used Heat Holder socks with the boots and been very comfortable even after 6-8 hours of fishing. A good pair of Merino wool socks would work even better I suspect. Before this I froze in Sorels what were size 10 unless I wore thin wool socks with Toe Warmers.
