trout/salmon lakes early ice conditions.

Well, Newfound started to lock up on the south end. I'm going to check ice thickness at lunch.

Anyone reading this considering checking it out, be warned! Even if the ice is thick enough getting off the landing at Cummings beach, there was an open "hole" yesterday to the left from the bouy to the north end of the parking lot, about 10 feet out and 20ish feet wide, so it will be thinner!

Anyone else checking the trout lakes?

10-4 Guinea, we went on ice patrol yesterday and most of Winnisquam is locked, but the wind keeps breaking up the wide part of the lake above the bridge ! Some have sneaked out onto the north and south ends, the Mohawk island Morons were out behind it yesterday ! :wow:

Just got back from Newfie.....about 5" off town beach. The open spot locked up, but you can still see where it is. I didn't go see how thick it was, I just walked straight out about 30 feet.
There was a guy fishing at the foot (the one way street) so I stopped to chat with him. I didn't punch through, but he said he measured about 3" there. It looked more uniform than town beach; where you can see where it had cracked and refroze. Those spots had about 3".

I know where I'll be tomorrow! :D
