Good ice down Ludlow way and the smelt are cooperating. Little buggers, but very tasty!!

so, i've been smelting on the waterbury res. a few times and have had some ok luck near the ledges but i have heard of guys pulling out over a hundred in just a couple hours... i went out to the state park and put in a couple hundred yards off shore and pulled up a few dozen but i am wondering what area to hit up to catch dinner for more than two people!? some say blush hill side, just out in the bay and deep but i havent had any luck out in the deep...
one thing i like about fishing.... you always catch something: fish, buzz, cold

Try using some sort of fish finder or sonar to see just what level they are at. Just because you are out deep, doesn't mean the fish are down near bottom. They change depths all the time and the guys I know that are getting hundreds a day are adjusting constantly, to follow the fish at the level they are at. -Jim
