I was out at gull around christmas and fishing was slow ice is thick maybe 18" but I do know someone who has been having good luck with whitefish out there. All I managed to pull out was small pike.

i was also out at gull yesterday. Beautiful day to fish but no fish on the ice. Ice was thick, around 2 feet. Only saw one person pull a fish out all day and it was a little burbot. We were fishin shoals in about 15-20 feet of water. The whites and pike may still be shallower.

my buddies fish gull all the time just off wilsons beach and they say 14 feet of water is best for most fish. whites are shallower but last year we pulled a 6 pound burbot out of there. Iam not attending the derby this year though.

on another board there is a response saying that the gull lake derby is cancelled due to lack of interest. i am not sure if this rumour is true or not.

PS: ok i just checked the website and its on the top of the page that shows its cancelled.

If by "been there lately" you mean Gull then yes I was there on Monday.
It was slow but there was some action. I missed one flag, then landed a five pound pike, then right before packing up at 7:oopm I nailed a 7lb Burbot! I've rarely had a wicked day of fishing on Gull but at least it is consistant for me; as I have fished here every year for three years now & have only been skunked once which is more than I can say for most Southern AB lakes :? As far as the rental shacks I can't comment because I wasn't even aware you could do that, might be worth checking into though!

if any one wants like some nice jacks and some bebot you can try a spot i found.you good about 2 ranged roads est of bently then take a right and head strainght for the lake.when u get on then lake head towards the pressure ridges.(dont worry ice is 27+ inches) sit in about 15-20 feet of water before 11am and use a tip-up with a treble and a smelt. good luck to any one that tries. 8) 8)
