Postby Phish_on2k » Mon Jan 23, 2012 2:28 pm

i have been hearing a lot about "tommycod" from a co-worker...havent really even heard of them..let alone find someone who sells them....he swears by them..."ya cant kill 'em!...very hardy..."

can you fish for trout with them? are they like an "all around" bait?

opinions are very welcome!!
**Edit....i see that i have reposted something i talked about last year or so...sorry!***

Tommys are great to fish with. Very lively and last all day. The biggest salmon I caught was on a Tommy Cod 3 ft below the ice. If I could buy them I would fish with them every day. Use to trap my own at a salt marsh area as the tide dropped. Target the pools with standing water at low tide. My Dad use to joke on how long a Tommy cod woudl last in his pocket while he was jigging.

there is a shop in Lisbon Falls, right next to the candle pin bowling place...it has changed names a few times...not sure what they are called now..but they carry Tommy cod and they have tackle...pretty good setup for bait...just leave me some!

I used these last year, my grandfather said they were good and we used them and had no problems they stayed alive in a cooler with an outside temp of 10 degrees and they are lively can be used multiple times or at least the one si had could

I know Dag's has them on occasion. Very tough little buggers, seem to work as well as shiners.
