AGM batteries, special charging required?

Am going to switch over to AGM batteries this winter in my ice house (2 bank with on board charger), I hear some people say that you need a charger designated for the AGMs, I don't think it would be an issue, has anyone had a problem with it?

I have never heard that before..... but, I use a Motomaster battery tender.
I did a search and it is Suitable for all types of 12V lead-acid batteries, including deep-cycle, gel cell and AGM.

I went into battery plus and they tend to agree with you. I also did some other research and I can not find anything that would be an issue using a conventional charger.

I have a few Optima blue tops. I charge them with a battery tender style charger from wally world. never had a problem with them. i do have a charger that has setting for agm/gel. I use this once during the spring to make sure they are topped off.

I looked at the Optimas, I take they are top of the line, I hope so for what the price is. I see they have a 2 year warranty on them, so they must stand by their product. Do you recommend the optimas or if you had to do it all over again would you stick with a regular deep cell?

I love the optima blue tops !! For camping during the summer I love them .they outlast the regular deep cycles by far! Got a good deal on them. Four blue tops for the price of hauling them away. We run one on the ice for the camera and used it four weekends and never had to charge it. Standard flasher battery only got about 4 hours and it was dead. Great batteries.
