What is the best Heat source for a Hut?

Postby 5Pines » Sun Jan 27, 2013 10:26 am

I have a new Hut, 5x8 built like a small aluminum trailer on skis. I have been using the Mr. Buddy we used on the pop up but the hut seems colder then the pop up was! I am going to insulate it next summer and thought of putting in some sort of ducted propane system. Anybody have success with a small system like this? How many BTU do you think I will need?

Haved a 4 by 8 couples years before and i had the propane kit of an old trailer-tent..it was really enought..Got to cut a little bit the heater to make it lower and add a top plate for the coffee kettle! :thumb:

Welcome to the chat 5pines, http://www.harborfreight.com and http://www.northerntool.com both have several of those propane units to choose from, some are even ajustable from 15,000 BTU up to 30,000 BTU ! You have about 280 cubic feet of space, the heater specs will tell you roughly about how many BTUs you will need, better to have extra BTU's and turn it down, then to not have enough !

I found the same thing when I switched from the portable to the hut but after I insulated I found that my Mr buddy worked fine. Nothing wrong with upgrading but why spend the money if you don't have too. More money for other things like beer  :thumb: Gerard
