Kerosene heater in my ice hut

Postby chris_reid1980 » Tue Feb 18, 2014 6:17 pm

I haven't been catching many fish lately and I was just wondering if maybe the kerosene heater I use in my ice hut could possibly be contaminating my lures and the line on my poles with a faint kerosene smell? I can't smell anything on them but maybe it is enough for the fish to smell. What does everyone think, I would appreciate anyone's opinion on this.

I would think it would bother fish. Try to sterilize your jigs by boiling water, wash the rod eyelets, re-spool your lines. Next time you go fishing, wear latex gloves to light your heater as to not get the kero on your hands. I have had kero heaters in the past before propane heaters became so popular. I was always careful with re-fueling and handling the heater thinking it would bother the bite. Think of it this way, would you put a kero hand handled jig in your mouth? While a new clean jig would pass the lips much easier. Hope this helped.
