Lake trout

Postby slewshark79 » Sun Feb 24, 2008 11:38 pm

I was wondering if anyone out there had any tips or preferred methods for winter lake trout fishing. I have tried smelts/gorge hooks as well as jigs/minnows with some success. I have heard that the Williams series spoons and jigs work well, but have yet to try them. Any feedback welcome. Thanks.

Try dead bait...Gut a smelt and drop it a foot off of the bottom...Big dead bait work great. Lakers are a lot like pike in what they eat...Also, I have great luck in relatively shallow water, like 15 ft near dropoffs...Also, gold and red Kastmasters are great for jigging the bottom...
