First Ice

Postby Ping » Wed Dec 19, 2007 8:33 pm

I cut my first holes this year this past Saturday, Caught some gills, more small ones then big ones. I also pulled a 4.5 pound bucket mouth out. I fished a local pond here in New Lenox. It was great getting out on the ice again. May you all be lucky fisherman or lucky fisherwoman!

Hey Ping, how thick was the ice when you went. I live a bout 45mn. south west of you and I'm waiting to hear about the ice conditions before I head out?

First Ice (ice conditions)

Postby Ping » Thu Dec 20, 2007 6:46 pm

The ice here at the thickest part of the pond was 4" thick. I usually trust 3" of good ice, not honeycombed ice. I went today and the ice is still good enough, the surface is snow covered & slushy. Be careful if it warms like they say it’s supposed to do.

Good luck fishing the hard water and be safe!
