Smelt on Gull

Friday night was slow at the south end, but Saturday the bite was better at the north end of Gull. Good ice. Best part was my son bringing a friend of his who'd just moved up from Texas. It was his first time on ice and he had a ball. I can't remember hearing that much laughter in the shanty. We only pulled up 78, but it would have double that if we hadn't been laughing ourselves to tears.

My prowess for these toothy bastards has waned a bit over the years.

Last Friday my buddies and I absolutely spanked 'em. We hiked out to 90' of water and all four of us had over a hundred to clean. I pulled up more smelt in one night than I did all last year. Had a blast, they were biting hard. Lots of Big smelt too. I had a dozen over 8", and not many under 6". Can't wait to get out again this weekend!

Trying to catch up! Hit another 94 smelt Saturday night. My buddy had his 4 year old son out there and we had a great time. I need to remember the stinkin' camera!
