Looking for a closer lake

This weekend (2/16-2/18 )I plan to come up from Kansas City for my first ice fishing trip in Nebraska. It looks like Summit Lake is about 4 hours from here and that will work but I am wondering if anyone knows of any public lake farther south toward KC? The more fishing and less driving I can get in the beter. If nothing closer how are the fish and ice on Summit?
